Update COVID-19 21 January 2021

21 January 2021 — Three hundred, and eleven (311) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 4359 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases twelve thousand, one hundred and seventy (12170). To date, seven thousand, nine hundred, and seventy-three (7973) patients have recovered, including one hundred, and sixty-one (161) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is four thousand, and thirty-five (4035) and one hundred, and sixty-two (162) deaths. The 9 new deaths are 4 female among them three of 61, 43 and 32 in Kigali and one of 80 years in Karongi District, and 5 male among them three of 75, 73 and 72 years in Kigali, one of 86 years in Huye District and on of 68 years old in RUbavu District.


The new cases are in Kigali (85), Gatsibo (57), Ngoma (41), Huye (27), Rulindo (18), Karongi (11), Musanze (10), Nyagatare (9), Gisagara (7), Nyanza (6), Kirehe(6), Burera (5), Rubavu (5), Muhanga (3), Rusizi (2), Kamonyi (2), Nyamagabe (2), Ruhango (2), and Nyamasheke (2); heightened vigilance is required everywhere. 

The COVID-19 prevention measures announced by the Government of Rwanda must continue to be rigorously observed, especially frequent hand-washing and physical distancing. In addition, face masks must be worn in public and multi-family compounds.
Withholding information related to contact tracing or COVID-19 symptoms, jeopardises public safety and will be punished in accordance with applicable laws.
